Oh My God!

When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

Who is Your God?
Who is Your God?

Couple of days ago, a thought was impressed upon me. “When life is smooth, God is good. When life is tough, God is cruel.”  I didn’t know what to make of that thought until this morning when part of my devotion brought me to Psalm 8. I was not thinking that for myself but I know that some people make general statements about God that are usually not founded on biblical facts and truths.

Most people form an opinion of God through tradition, religion and other twisted description by different people of different background and experiences.  Some people are quick to judge God or say He doesn’t exist, but when asked to support their opinion with facts, they scramble for answers.

Are You Willing to Listen?
Are You Willing to Listen?

Our opinion of God is based on our unique, intimate relationship with Him. When people can’t tell us who their God is, we should be ready to offer some insights and prayerfully share who He really is. How can one look at His creation and deny His existence?  Just put your hand over your chest and feel your heart beat. Don’t you wonder in amazement how our body (inside and out)  works like a symphony orchestra?

You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.
You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

If God is a cruel god, why would He go through the trouble of thoughtfully creating us if He meant us harm and destruction? All His wonderful creations He gave at our disposal. He trusts us enough to oversee His masterpiece, right? What do you own that is valuable and willing to hand over to someone for safekeeping?

Would you even do that? …I know, right?

God's plans yellowNext time our life circumstance is not pleasant and favorable, instead of blaming and judging God,  my prayer is that we  go to the source to search and really get to know the author of life.

God bless you real good.

  1. “I know that some people make general statements about God that are usually not founded on biblical facts and truths.” Amen, and Bang ! Bang!

One statement for example is “God helps those who help themselves.” I’ve told people for years that is a LIE and to take a deeper look at how they are living. It is no where in the bible, nor were the words ever relayed to mankind from God.
    Very enlightening post!

  2. This is excellent. A question I’m asked SO often in my counseling office: “How could a loving God allow. . . .” and you can fill in the blank. These verses are a superb response to that question.
